I want to take the time and write a piece about my ever confusing cat. So if you will read along and maybe you will find some similarities between her and the whole human cognitive.
To start off, the cats name is Gracie, secondly, Gracie is a traveling cat, when we travel she is in an RV., of course when at home she stays in the house. When we are at home we also have four other cats who live in the house, on the road only she goes with us. The reasoning behind this is the other four cats are far more outdoorsy and active.
Now I have noticed some interesting things about the difference in Gracie’s personality depending on her location. For one, you must understand what she was like when we took her from the pound. She was a very shy cat, very shy, and we already had animals running in and out of the house. She was a very affectionate cat, and when she was feeling outgoing she would be pleased if you gave her attention. After four or so years of giving her far more attention than the other more self-confident cats she was starting to come out of her shell. She would leave the bedroom and come into the living room, even interact with the other cats, on rare occasions. This in it self was interesting enough, but more so was when we started to take her traveling. Traveling as often as we do, we sometimes would want a cat to go along. However, all of our cats have become very aquatinted with the outdoors and come inside as they please. Of course, Gracie was the standout, but we were too afraid she would do something unforgettable.
As I said, she was starting to come out of her shell, and had been for quite some time when we decided we should give her a chance. The first trip was predictable, she found the closest alcove and hid the majority of the time. She had us worried a few times, but overall nothing went wrong. The second and third tries were somewhat more successful, but still she was a “scardie cat.” These attempts to make her feel normal continued for sometime, the amount of trips I do not know. Eventually she became lovable, she would purr when you pet, come out regularly, and overall was a very sociable cat.
Today, when in the RV, she is possibly the most outgoing cat I have ever met, but when we take her home, it is still another story. When the bus gets home and we unpack our bags and cat, Gracie becomes a very different animal again. She does not become the shy cat she once was, but instead a more relaxed and authoritative figure. She will spend most of her time in the bedroom sprawled out on the bed, if another cat tries to join her she will instantly hiss them away. More interesting is the fact, when you try to pet her she will whine and hiss but make no attempt to attack you, which is often does when she really means it. Also, she will make no sound of vexation if there is no other cat in the room.
What I have concluded is when Gracie was given the power of singularity she took it open armed, but when placed back in a habitat with multiple cats and animals she wanted to keep her power. She wanted to keep her standing with the other cats as the absent leader or dictator.
All in all, this was a very informal observation I have made over the years. I try to relate this people in the sense, when we receive power it is not always easy to give it up.
Apart from that, I only recommend you to find simple patterns in your life and the life around you. Sometimes by relating to something so easy to observe, yet humorous at the same time you can realize the facts about yourself.
